If you cannot select None, you can always try going to a local department or electronics store and purchase an iTunes Gift card, and redeem that into your account to create a credit balance.

I'm not aware of too many apps that require you to pay for updates. I'm afraid that you are going to have to better explain the problem you are experiencing. Please describe what you are trying to do and what is happening when you try to do it. If you see any error messages, please provide the exact text of those errors. Are you possibly being told to update your payment information before you can download an update? If that is the case, just log into your iTunes account and update that payment information.

Hi mindilynn1971. In case it's not clear, the only way to update apps in iOS 11 is to use the app store app on your iPhone. Tap the Updates icon at the bottom to access the updates. If you're asked to update your payment method, you need to do that, as already described. That does not mean you're going to pay for the updates.
