Why won’t iPhone transmit ALAC through USB?

My iPhone with 11.2 iOS isn’t sending ALAC music (or standard itunes) digitally through a lightning USB cable to my DAC. I’ve tried two different cables, cleaned all the contacts (charging activates), and my receiver does process ALAC files. When everything is plugged in properly the music continues to come out of the phone speakers. Ideas?
