Hi

Old iPhone & new iPhone have to be running the same ios 11

If they are on old iPhone go to iCloud make sure iCloud back up is on Then backup now over your wifi.

Set new iPhone up over your wifi when it asks if you want to use iCloud backup Say yes to get your apps and data on new iPhone this will only work if old iPhone is on ios 11.

If not set new iPhone up as a new iPhone Then download apps from the apps store

Use same apple I'd Then you won't have to pay again.

Cheers

First off, why won't your old one backup? What happens when you try? Are you trying to backup with iTunes or iCloud? You won't be able to get the information off the old device unless you can get a backup. The only other choice would be to make sure all data is synced to a supported application and then get it on the new phone by setting it up new. You would not, however get your messages, game data, or camera roll.

So you are trying to backup the phone with iTunes. What version of the phone are you trying to backup? What iOS is on that phone? What is the exact version number of iTunes that you are using and what computer OS are you using?

Besides it saying it cannot be backed up, is it showing any other error? Make sure you get the exact text of any error. That will help tremendously.

Your photos from the camera roll can be imported to the computer and then you can sync them back to the phone via iTunes, you just cannot get them back into the camera roll.

What happens when you try to update the iOS on the phone?

When you say iTunes is the latest, please identify the actual version number. It can be found in Help.

What computer OS are you using?

What troubleshooting have you tried?

You can check the steps in this support document for help if the iPhone is not recognized in iTunes. If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support
