How do I delete my subscription so I can download/update apps in the App Store?

I downloaded Smule and did the 7 day VIP access so I could have a karaoke version of a song to sing at church. After I sang the song, I cancelled the subscription. Now every time I go to the App Store, I get a notification saying “There is a billing problem with a previous purchase”. And my payment method gets declined.
