How do I update my Epson driver from Apple, not Epson?

My Epson Software Update always tells me that their latest driver is distributed from Apple, not Epson. But I can't find where to find it via Apple. Any ideas?

Apple gets these drivers from the printer manufacturers prior to release of a new operating system ... unless that manufacturer does not fully support the new OS. Epson would not be an exception and I am surprised that their support site does not offer drives directly from them.

One option is to try resetting your Mac's printing system.

Depending on the vintage of Epson printer, all-in-one, or other model you may

need to look for a specific product at Epson support site; and then look for a

download file of printer drivers. The printer model should appear in Epson site.

(Or an immediately prior print driver for older Mac OS may be present. You

could try one, and hope the later Mac OS may negotiate it correctly.)

There may (or not) be a trail of crumbs to printer drivers at Epson (US) here:

Some are marginalized as later macOS arrive; older products see no support

from the maker. For some of my Macs, a few years ago, the solution was to

download a huge file from Epson that included drivers for many printers...

{And the 'apple guy' at best buy (where local, had best price; & matched internet)

told me to get Epson drivers from that site. Later I found small file for one printer.}

If the printer you have does not support air print, you may have to connect

it by wire, leave it on, and then restart the computer; it may be able to find

some printer drivers from within the macOS. Sometimes the Mac can just

connect and print. ~ The basic setup instructions for epson/mac may work.

Often, a newer OS and drivers for supported older printers, show a reduced

set of control over the printer than an earlier version of print drivers... If you

have an older computer with good drivers, you may need to send print orders

to the older computer for it to print better quality output. Never upgrade past

the ability of your peripherals; and always have a spare/older Mac w/ intact OS.

In any event...

Good luck & happy trails! 🙂
