Display error in InDesign when formatting

On my new MacBook Pro (3.1/1 terabyte storage) I sometimes get a text display error when formatting text with an Indesign CC 2018 style. I have to click off to clear the display. I didn't notice this on my old 2009 MacBook Pro. I tried reinstalling InDesign and it still happens. Has anyone else had this issue? Here's what happens:

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)
