When they say you can see custom lyrics on your phone, as I've always been able to do, through every iPod, iPhone and iteration of iTunes and iOS. Why take this feature away? I have 4,000 songs with custom lyrics!!!

No, not lying. The Lyrics are there. They are just very glitchy since iOS 10.
Its an ongoing issue, that does not seemed to be properly fixed yet.

Technically its true they can be seen, its just not something that works correctly 100% of the time.

You may want to provide Apple feedback about this:
they changed it so you have to force-press into the track, then scroll down the list of options that come up - lyrics is at the bottom. Stupid change to what was an elegantly simple function.
So basically Apple is lying about custom lyrics in this article.
