Garage band sound library won't delete

When I go to System Information, then Storage, Manage, then to Music Creation, I click 'Remove Garageband Sound Library' and nothing happens, it doesn't delete anything. Restarting doesn't help.

Hello natcarish,

I see that you're having an issue when trying to remove GarageBand Sound Library from your MacBook Pro. I can understand needing to free up some storage space, and I'd be happy to help.

First, before removing anything I recommend creating a backup before hand:

How to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac
Once you've created a backup, then try to use this path to remove that data: Finder > Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > GarageBand.
Let me know how this goes.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Have a great day!

Hi Brenden,

Thanks for that, but that only accounts for 1.6GB, but the Storage pane shows that the Sound Library contains 5GB, so where is the rest hiding? I have checked ~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand as well, but there's almost nothing (8KB) there.

I also want to know why the facility in System Profiler, a part of OS X, to remove the Sound Library does nothing.
