can't find download of High Sierra

I downloaded High Sierra after wiping my hard drive in order to use my computer for work. Got Mountain Lion running on it again so I could put High Sierra as the OS. I restarted as the computer asked but when it loaded back up High Sierra was gone and won't let me re download it and I can't find it in my downloaded file. Where did it go or what am I doing wrong?
