ios 11: forgotten iCloud password

My iCloud is signed in my old email which I don't have an access to anymore.
I'd like to know if ios 11 will ask for my iCloud password when I update it.
Or will I get stuck on activation lock process?

If you know the password, sign out, then do a name change to an e-mail address you have access to.
