messages in menu bar
I just installed High Sierra (10.13.1). I seem to have lost my Messages icon in the menu bar. Any ideas how to get it back in there?

If you go to settings and type in "menu" does it give the option to show messages on the menu bar? If you open messages and then go to message preferences, there should be a box to select for "show status in menu bar."
Yes I was in the preferences screen. There isn't anything you are referring about. What is "that box is the first box next to account status"? If you are referring to account tab next to general tab, there is no option in there regarding menu bar. If you are referring to general tab, there is nothing in there as well. Perhaps I need to update to the newest OS? I only have 10.13.1. I understand there is a 10.13.2
I am not given the option in message preferences to select a box for "show status in menu bar". There is no option. I also don't know what you mean by settings. By any chance, are you referring to iPhone? This is an iMac question.
At the top left of the screen when messages is open you can click on the word messages and it brings up a menu. Preferences is the second one down and if you select it, that box is the first box next to "account status."
Thanks! Solved my issue.
Go to /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/ and double-click iChat.menu
