Mac unresponsive after unplugging USB

Hi,

I just got a 2017 13" macbook pro. I am connecting it to a powered usb 2 hub using a usb 2 to usb C adapter. Connected to this hub I have a Zoom audio interface and a MIDI keyboard. If I unplug this setup while the mac is asleep it becomes unresponsive and I need to reboot in order to start using again.

Anybody know why this is happening?
