what if "Close windows when quitting an app" is checked, and the app closes unexpectedly?

Hi all 🙂

in system prefs, i am wondering:

what if "Close windows when quitting an app" is checked, and the app closes unexpectedly?

Will it still close all windows because of this checkmark,

even though i personally did not quit the app?

(I would hope not, because i very well could have files open that i was in the middle of when this happens.

Yet i have so far always kept the box unchecked, for just in case it would close all.)]
