Upgrading to SSD in a 13" macbook pro mid 2012

Hi,

I have a 13" macbook pro mid 2012 model, I am trying to upgrade the hard disk to a SDD and use it as the primary storage and the hard disk as the secondary storage device for storing the document and data files.

For this I plan to follow the ifixit vide tutorials.

However I am unable to understand whether to clone the hard disk and install to the SSD or do I have to do a clean install on the SSD?

What is the advantage of cloning and clean install ???

I have many applications at present, also virtual box with several guests as Windows.

Thanks

a

MacBook Pro, iOS 10.2, El Capitan Operating System
