I have the Apple Watch Series 3. Since updating to 4.2, the Mail app has not been fetching mail when not connected to my iPhone X. Previously, I was getting messages when leaving my phone at home while walking the dog. Has any encountered this?

Yes. I've the same problem. See my Postings ;-)
My Problem solving after hours of testing and trying because nothing helps: Back to iOS 11.1.2, restored without backup, to get rid of IOS 11.2 which was in my case the problem.
Now it runs again. Therefore I'm thinking the problem is not 4.2 but 11.2.
In my case i've now iphoneX with 11.1.2 and watch3 with 4.2, and this runs (again)
