When trying to ad my videos to the timeline, I get a white circle with a white bar, it won't allow me to add them. The only difference I can see between the new videos and the old ones is that the file names have been changed to a long gibberish name.

It's from Photo, the inspector seems to have given each one an unintelligible name. So I went and changed one of the names, and suddenly they've all been fixed, and I can now import them again. Thanks, if it wasn't for your question, I wouldn't have tried it.
Where did the video come from? Can you open it in the QT player? What are the specs it gives in the inspector window?
