Restore from a device with different phone number

hello
- i am a total newbie when it comes to iPhone backup restore procedures.

i managed to backup both old iPhones 3 & 5(different phone numbers) using iTunes onto our MAC.

I’m dumping my iPhone 3 because i just inherited my wife’s iPhone 5s (she has upgraded to the 10).

I would like to transfer my old iPhone 3 settings onto the iphone 5.

(remember both phones have different numbers)

However, i can’t seem to find a way to point the iPhone 5 to locate and restore the old iPhone 3 backup file. It seems the iPhone 5 automatically points/locates its backup file.

question - how do i point my iPhone 5 to use the iPhone 3 backup file?

hi limos - thank you for your reply.

i had already followed the restore instructions several times. however, my issue starts at step 5 "Select Restore Backup. Then choose a backup. Make sure it's the correct one by looking at the date and size of each."

The backup for the iphone 5 is listed, but the backup for my old iphone 3–the one i wish to use is not in the list.
