I received it from China with the att SIM card already installed but I noticed the battery life was not 100% out of the box... why?

Why would you think it should be 100%? All batteries are subject to self discharge over time.

Hi

Your iPhone may have been sealed in box for 1/2 months

Even if iPhones are not turned on battery will go down over time.
