can not set up apple tv 3rd generation for 1st time without the remote

I bought an apple TV 3rd generation from a friend but doesn't came with the remote I heard that you still can use it with your iPhone or iPad on my case I'm trying to use with my Iphone 8s to control the apple TV but doesn't work, any help with this please.

You need to have the physical remote to set up the Remote App on your iPhone since you need to navigate to the Remotes section on the Apple TV.

If you don't have a remote, you'll need to buy one:

Apple Remote - Apple

Then download the Apple Remote App from the store and follow the prompts:
