Sometimes the iPad charges fully, other times it doesn’t. Could there be something wrong in the lightning connector port?

That is certainly a symptom of a bad charger/cord/obstructed port.
Try a different cord/charger, and Here are some tips to clean out the port. It is important to note that Apple does not recommend compressed air.
I have to wrap my cord around the iPad when charging. Is something damaged lightning connector?
