What hard drives can my early 2015 use?

I picked up an early 2015 MacBook Pro from Goodwill a couple weeks ago. Only problem is it doesn't have a hard drive. I have a 1.5 TB Toshiba external hard drive that I partioned and I'm running the OS from that. I can't use this setup forever though. I'm having a hard time finding an internal hard drive that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I already have a MSi gaming laptop so I'm not looking for something huge. 256GB should be plenty. I know it takes a PCIe flash drive. Any suggestions on finding one? I don't want to order one online and it be the wrong one. I've been told that Apple uses its own proprietary hard drives but I've also been told that recently changed.
