Apple Prores files not opening in preview nor quicktime. FCPX incredibly slow

Just purchased a 15'' MacBook Pro 2017, 2.9ghz, all seemed to be fine. Imported about 100GB of Prores footage and it was quite quick with the import, however, the files cannot be previewed or opened by quicktime. I can import them in FCPX at an incredibly slow speed and I can work on them only with the proxy mode.

There seems to be a problem with the Prores format with MacOS High Sierra or my computer, because all the other mp4 videos work fine, and the same Prores files can be easily opened from my Late 2013 13'' Mac.

Any solution for this?

Thanks,

Jack

Something is definitely not right.

Are you running 10.13.1?

If so, I can only suggest you download the 10.13.2 COMBO update and run it. Maybe there is some corrupt file in your installation.

You may also run Etrecheck and post its report here.

Often weird problems are caused by unexpected software conflicts. The report may show some likely candidates.

Hey Luis,

Thank you loads for the support. I was running the 10.13.1 version, then I downloaded and installed the 10.13.2 COMBO as suggested and it all went smoothly - I previously had an installation problem with the App Store software update just 4 days ago. However, I found out it's not about the prores format, the opening of new video files in mp4 format is just as slow. I am copying videos from a sdxc card, about 30GB, and the speed worryingly fluctuates between 40 minutes and 9 hours.

There clearly is a huge problem with video files both in opening and even transferring. Major downer after spending over 3000$, super disappointed. What the **** is apple doing to their software?

Apple Prores files not opening in preview nor quicktime. FCPX incredibly slow
