iTunes wifi sync issue

There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when this actually works. I have an iPad Air 2 and a 2011 MacBook Pro. They have previously been connected and the wi-fi sync set up. The wi-fi sync has worked before- it was last synced on Nov 30. But sometimes it seems like it takes an act of God to get this to work and it always revolves around whether or not my MBP shows "available" on my iPad under Settings>General>iTunes Wi-Fi Sync. The Sync Now button is greyed out, but when it is not and I tap on it, it begins the Sync but never actually syncs and my MBP IS available. Tried restarts, connect the iPad to the MBP, latest software loaded, etc... I have OS 10.13.2 and iOS 11.2.1. iTunes is 12.7.2.58 version. And....and, my sons each have an iPad Pro which both seem to appear in iTunes and sync no problem, but my iPad? Major hassle... Just don't understand it. Have tried halting the process AppleMobileDeviceHelper from the Activity Monitor, closing iTunes and restarting to no avail either....

Help!

This isn't a sure answer but just a problem I witnessed on a MacBook Pro and a personnal workaround.

Could you check on your MacBook Pro that your main connection is through Wi-Fi = the 1st on top in the left window of:

System Preferences > Network

If this wasn't the case, for me the synchronization through Wi-Fi wasn't possible.

And here is how I worked around this problem:

  • I quited Itunes
  • I insured that my main MacBook Pro connection was through Wi-Fi (by eventually dragging it ontop position)
  • I restarted iTunes
  • made a synchronization over Wi-Fi

Please, feel free to tell me if my workaround is working or failing for you.

This might help me to focus on a real bug and could help Apple to reproduce and fix it.
