Is importing to FCPX really this slow

Hi, I'm new to Mac and FCPX. I shoot 1080 x50i HD on an sxs card and have imported it via an sxs usb3 card reader to my new Mac OS High Sierra ver.10.13.1 The import seems to take at least real time if not longer, is this how it should be or am I missing something.

Any advice gratefully received.
