Is there any way to set the default email app in High Sierra other than going through the Mail app's preferences. Since upgrading to High Sierra mail will not open so I have migrated to a different email client however, the default email app is still Mail which causes problems when I try to respond to email links, calendar invites, etc.

AirMail doesn't have the option and everything I've found says to go through the Mail app's preferences general setting however, I can't get Mail to open so I can't access the preferences...Seems like I'm in a Catch-22 situation.
Try booting up your Mac in Safe Mode. Then log in and see if you can now access the Mail app.

I'm not sure why you can't use the Mail app's preferences to change the default app to the email client you would rather use. Does this client have a similar option to set it as the default?
