share time capsule disk

hi there,

I use an airport time capsule to extend my wireless network. I share the time capsule disk for music and photos. This works great while I am at home and connected to my wireless network. However, I haven't figured out how to connect remotely to the time capsule. Please note that the TC is an extension of my network therefore, it doesn't have a public IP address to connect to. I tried forwarding a port in my AirPort Extreme to the TC (I used the Mac address and the private IP address to forward the port for file sharing the TC)

Any suggestion is greatly apreciated

thanks

My Time Capsule is in Bridge Mode on the network here, so it receives a Private IP Address from the main router, which is an AirPort Extreme.

Have you tried Back to My Mac? (Method 1 in the link below, provided by forum expert Tesserax). This is by far the easiest way for most users to access the Time Capsule drive from a remote location over the Internet.

Plus, you can call Apple Support for more information on this if needed.

If Back to My Mac won't work, then you can try the Port Mapping method (3)....but....you will need a fixed, static Internet IP address from your provider for this to work reliably, which likely means a business level account.
