FCPX "Modified File" Error for Multicam Clip

So I've been editing with a multicam clip for days, and this afternoon when I opened it up, the whole strip was a big red error message that said "Modified File." I surfed Google, including this forum, and found a thread where many people suggested that the fix was to delete the Transcoded Media folder for the relevant event, empty the trash, and then to uncheck the "Create optimized media" options in Preferences and restart FCP.
