My imessages keep using my email address
My imessages keep using my email address i have signed out signed in reset network settings and can't fix the problem Still. Any ideas?

iPhone 5s, iOS 11.2
I've tried going to my settings and clicking send/receive and the only option its letting me select is my email address. my phone number is grayed out and has a spinning circle saying waiting for activation.
