Change airdrop location

Hello. I will shortly be going on a trip. I will be taking multiple pictures with my iPhone. Due to limited storage, I will need to airdrop them to my Mac. I would like to then put them on an external drive. When airdropping, you are given the choice between save in photos or downloads. Is it possible to airdrop and save directly onto the drive, instead of saving to downloads, and then transferring to the drive. Thanks in advance!
