trackpad stops working intermittently

The trackpad on my macbook pro will often stop working for just a few seconds intermittently, usually after I've been typing and then start using the trackpad right after. I can usually see where the cursor is but it's just stuck there for a few seconds and then it comes back.

Anyone else have this experience and if so, any ideas for fixing it?
