Out of warranty repair on apple watch series 2

The screen of my series 2 watch was badly smashed but out of warranty and I've checked with Apple and they say I may be eligible for 'out of warranty' repair with the maximum cost (likely for me!) of £226.44 which seems perfectly reasonable. From what I understand, they likely wouldn't bother trying to repair and just provide a replacement however I note that they no longer sell the series 2. Before I hike to the local Genius Bar, 1) will they likely replace on the spot and 2) am I looking at being offered a Series 1? Thanks!

Apple Watch Series 2, iOS 11.2.1

Hi

Apple Watch is not user-serviceable and Apple does not offer a screen repair or screen replacement service for Apple Watch.

If the issue is not covered under warranty or AppleCare+ (if previously purchased), then your Apple Watch may instead be eligible for whole unit replacement via chargeable, out-of-warranty service.

Contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider to arrange for your Apple Watch to be inspected and to establish your available service options:

Out-of-warranty replacements for Series 2 models are normally of the same model (even though it is no longer sold new by Apple). You would not be provided with a lower specification watch.

I'm afraid that no-one here can tell you what Apple will decide in your specific case. You are not talking to Apple here - this is a user-based technical support community.
