Apple TV Gen 3 Software Update Failure

Apple TV Gen 3 Software Update failure - "Software update unsuccessful. Couldn't be downloaded at this time - Try again later" is the message I get when trying to update (have tried numerous times). There is no option given to update manually. Is it possible to download the update to my MacBook Pro then update the Apple TV from there?

Current software = 5.3(6105)

Model = MC572LL/A

I am using my iPhone 7 Plus hotspot for WiFi connection. Signal strength is 5 bars.

You would have to connect to your Mac via micro usb and do a restore, which will then load the latest firmware.

Restore your Apple TV through iTunes - Apple Support

It not advised to use a hotspot for longterm use, not only will the carrier eventually throttle the connection but it will also be in violation of their fair usage policy.
