To disable Spotlight launch Terminal and copy & paste this command at the prompt:
sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plistPress Return and enter your password (it will be invisible)
To reenable:
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist2 replies
