After system update my computer freezes at the opening bar.

I recently performed the software update on my computer. Afterward when I turn my computer on it is frozen on the loading bar window. Any advice on what this signifies and how to get beyond this or do I need to take it in for service?

Try resetting the PRAM per the directions in iMac SMC and PRAM reset. If that does not work, attempt to restart in Safe Mode per the directions in Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support. If both fail book an appointment at your local Apple Authorized Service Provider.
