"Advanced Mac Cleaner" frequently appears at the upper right corner of my desktop. I never consciously downloaded it, but it pops up. It will even start to "scan" my Mac. I have to stop it and close it down. How can I get rid of it?

Installing other claimed adware removal apps on top of what you installed is asking for trouble.
