Time Machine confusion

Any ideas why TM is showing incorrect date/time for latest backup? Inspecting the two backup discs shows latest backups all present and correct but the display behind the icon in the menu bar shows latest as several days ago

Tried safe boot - and that cleared the time - next TM backup then recorded correct time in menu bar - but since then subsequent backups haven't changed that display. TM Preferences shows correct date/time on every backup to either of both backup discs so I guess it's TM not overwriting date in menu bar once it's been set the first time

I've never tried this but some say that in ~/library/preferences/ & ~/library/preferences/byhost directories there is a

".Global *** files which if deleted will fix the issue, as well as a file actually in TimeMachine that lists the progress of TM, it's called backups.backupd... they claim the removal of one or all of either sets of these fixes the issue.

Naturally make sure your settings are set properly for time and zone.
