Text selection on iPad not working as expected

Hello, I am a fairly new iPad Pro owner. It is my first time using an Apple device since I had the iPod Touch 4 several years ago.

On Safari when I am using a large textbox the selection is not working as expected. When I select the text and drag my finger out of the textbox I would expect it to scroll the textbox and select more of the text. Instead, as soon as my finger leaves the textbox my selection is lost. This is in contrast to my Android phone which would scroll the text within the box, and I'm sure my iPod did that as well.

Two websites where it happens is Wikipedia and my own website, https://coasterpedia.net

Is this how iOS is supposed to work or is it a glitch? I am on software version 11.2.1

Thanks in advance

Lachlan

Ah I have just realised I am not able to attach a video to my posts.

I am sorry @Brian but I'm maybe missing something in your response as I have not been using iMessage - the problem is occurring in Safari and Chrome.

I have uploaded a video of what I am doing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MWNe531i7w

I was just wondering if this is how it has always behaved or if it is a glitch. I'm sure my iPod Touch let me drag the selection to scroll the textbox but that was back on iOS 6.

Thanks
