My apple ID is not letting me login on my computer

So, I have an iPhone 6 and Macbook Pro and on both of my devices I was logged into my Apple ID. But, of course I forgot my password and I tried to reset it. I have managed to login on my iPhone with my new Apple ID but, for some reason it is not working on my Macbook. Any clue as to why? I could use any little of bit of help possible.

Your Mac uses username and password to log in.

Your Apple-ID is used for Apple Internet services, and is generally not stored on your Mac nor available for use as a login.

Your Apple-ID can be an Aid to changing your password on your Mac, but only works if you have already set its up to allow this, and requires excellent and readily available connection to the Internet.
