High Sierra slowing down Macbook Air

I did the upgrade to High Sierra last night and my Macbook air has gotten very slow as a result. I am now getting a notice that my startup disk is almost full, switching between programs is delayed, even typing is delayed. Is it possible to go back to the previous operating system or is there a patch to solve these issues?
