External optical enclosure for mid-2010 iMac

Hi. Need to replace the internal optical drive in a mid-2010 iMac running Snow Leopard. Rather than open the iMac I want to hook up an external optical drive in an enclosure. Found one at OWC that looks pretty nice. It's a tray loading Mercury Pro and uses an LG drive (WH16NS40). They also have just the external enclosure which you can fit w/ your own drive and I am considering that also although I'm not sure what drive would be an improvement over the LG.

Was wondering if anyone out there w/ my configuration was using either the enclosure w/ the LG drive or if they had hooked up just the enclosure fitted w/ an optical read/write drive of their own choice w/ success.

Final Cut Pro 6, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Mac Pro

I use a Nexstar DX optical encore connected by USB3 with an internal Pioneer BD 209 blu ray reader and writer. I've tried LG many times and they are just too flaky for my taste and patience including Samsung. The Pioneer has never failed me. Been using this set up for a number of years.
