Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I have a custom time field with Minutes:Seconds:Milliseconds
Whenever I click into this field to make changes a date and time pops up because the date format for the field gets changed to Automatic and my custom format - "Multiple". There is no way I can see to edit the original data, it's replaced by a date.

OK, with some changes I figured out a solution. I changed those fields to "text" first, then I changed them from "text" to "duration" and set the Units to min, sec, ms. This worked. when I click in the field the contents don't switch to a date format.

Thanks, I had tried that, but for some reason they kept moving back to date "custom format" and "automatic" the only way around it was to change to field to text first and then apply the Duration format. Odd.
It looks as if you are working with Duration rather than Date & Time. If that is the case you could consider using the built-in Duration formatting, something like this.
