El Capitan re-install

First off I am brand new to the world of Apple PC.

Recently purchased a refurbished Mac OS X El Capitan (mid 2009).

When turning it on for the first I setup it up with my Apple/iPhone account and then attempted to change it to my iCloud account and from there it just got ugly and decided to perform radical surgery by erasing and now attempting to reinstall the OS that was erased in Disk Utility.

Everything works smoothly until I try to download/reinstall and i get the message "this item is temporarily unavaialble".

From the limited reserach I have done combined with zero knowledge of Macs it seems that because the original software was not registered under my account, it will not download.

I am hopeful and will be grateful if someone can assist me in resolving this issue (which I acknowledge I created).
