How to turn notifications sounds off when you are on a phone call

Hi guys, I would like to know if there's a possible way of turning off the notifications when you are on a phone call with an iPhone. When someone is texting me, I nearly go deaf if I dint set my phone to vibrate, and when it's set on mute or vibration mode, I still have a hard time hearing my interlocutor. Reducing the sound of notifications will also reduce the ring sound. Thank you.
