When I enter passcode, and start using phone, my screen goes to black and I have to log on again and then the same thing happens. I set the Auto lock to never but it hasn't helped. I also notice my phone gets warm and my battery charge starts to drop significantly. This just started happening yesterday. I have had the phone for two years.

That's not good, I know how important your iPhone is to you, and I would like to help you get it functioning as expected. I recommend you perform an iTunes Restore, all documents and data will be deleted from your device so be sure to complete an encrypted iPhone backup and then begin the restore hereafter this, you can set the device as new or restore it from the backup you created earlier.
