Question: Activity App

Can someone explain this to me? This afternoon I walked 1.41 miles in 26.04 minutes (18.46 mile pace) with a 137 BPM average heart rate. Using the Hiking app, my Apple Watch recorded:

241 active calories/288 total calories

I then turned around and walked back along the exact same 1.41 mile route. This time I was a little faster. It took me 24.46 minutes (17’28” mile pace) with a 148 BPM average heart rate. Using the Outdoor Walk app, my Apple Watch recorded:

102 active calories/147 total calories

What the heck? This makes no sense to me. Why are the calories so much lower using the Outdoor Walk app than the Hiking app? It was the same day, same route, same person. The walk workout using the Walk app was just over a minute shorter, but at a faster pace and a higher average BPM, yet it recorded less than half the calories than the walk workout using the Hiking app.
