Yosemite security problem

I have performed a search using finder smart folder. the mac gave me a message that the drive is full, so I performed a "smart folder" option to search for newly created files within a day. It found a about 3 files and then the display disappeared.

I had cleared the garbage leaving more than enough disk space but when I performed a new search it showed no new files created within a day which is incorrect. The same files it displayed initially are still present on the drive.

Has anyone else incurred any similar errors or know what can be done.
