UserEventAgent using 100% CPU, 100% Memory

All of a sudden my iMac is extremely slow so I ran the Activity Monitor App to see if any particular process is affecting this. The process "UserEventAgent" is showing as taking up 99% or more of CPU and pretty much hugging all memory which is when the computer slows down. I can kill the process but it restarts itself immediately. Whilst I read various other threads none seem to address this issue specifically.

I ran EtreSoft and it found some possible adware which I removed as precaution but despite restarting after that, the computer is still slow and this process is still running at very high CPU/Memory usage. Etresoft report is marking the iMac performance as below average. This is an iMac 2017. Any help is appreciated.
