Force restart after 11.2

To renew a question that has dead-ended once: Does anyone know a work-around for force restarting the iPhone when the revised method no longer works after 11.2?

This is neither mechanical failure nor end-user ignorance. It worked through all 11.1.x and then immediately after installing 11.2, with wipe-clean and setup as new, no longer works.
