Good afternoon Bevheb,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand you are seeing "Headphones" as the audio source for your iPad, but you don't have any headphones plugged into it. Take a look at the resource below for issues with sound on your iPad. Try plugging a headphone into the jack, and then pulling it back out a couple of times. That may release the internal switch in the headphone jack.
If your iPhone is stuck in headphone mode
(This would apply to iPad as well)

When your iPhone gets stuck in headphone mode or won't recognize your headphones, get help.

Do you have one of these issues?

  • After you plug any headphones into your iOS device, sound plays from your device's speakers instead of the headphones.
  • You unplug your headphones, but when you adjust volume on your iOS device, you still see a Headphones volume indicator.

If so, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for inspection. Don’t have a nearby service location? Contact Apple Support.

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker
Take care.
