copy / paste function stopped working after upgrade to version 10.13.2

The copy/paste function is not working as used to be after updating to OS High Sierra described. 10.13.2.

The way around this problem is

Highlight what to copy

click on Edit menu and click on copy

go to the place where you want to paste and click on the position where the copied text should appear

Click on Edit menu and click on paste.

Quiet a workaround.

Any suggestions how to fix this?

I tried Save Mode (not working other then as described above)

Mac mini (Late 2012), macOS High Sierra (10.13.2), copy/cut/paste function
